Through her bite-sized interviews and experimental film portraiture, Zoë will put a different member of our community in the spotlight every month to get the inside scoop on what is happening in the scene from a teen’s perspective. This month, Zoë chatted with her long time friend and local celebrity, Trails, about her upcoming album and European tour.
What themes are you exploring in your upcoming album?
Trails: The new record explores themes of metamorphosis and revolution. The title of the record says it all —Progressive Flash- backs. I am looking back at the past four years in a way that is progressive and healing, through song I’m finding peace within what has happened through acceptance and finding comfort within the natural world around me.
You’ve recently been signed to Kelp Records! Tell me more about this advancement in your career!
Trails: It feels really great! I’m looking forward to having such an amaz- ing team to work with.
Though I’d consider you to be a renaissance woman, music has been your main thing since day one. What is the most exciting part about being a young musician?
Trails: I think the most exciting thing is that I have so much time to improve and grow as an artist, Its nice that at my young age I’m very comfortable performing which means that I’ll be even more cozy when I’m performing in 10 years…
What changes do you hope to see in the local music scene? How do you want to go about inspiring these changes?
Trails: I hope to see more female artists creating exactly what they want to create. I’m tired of people who try to govern what they think artists should and shouldn’t do. I want female artists of all ages to feel free and confident within whatever they are creating. I believe I too have to get better at this, but I hope young people see what I am doing and feel inspired to make their own art too
You’ve just played Halifax Pop with one of my favourite artists Lido Pimienta. Just when I thought you’d maxed out—you’re now off overseas! How does if feel to embark on your first European tour?
Trails: Playing in Europe is honestly a dream come true, I plan on soak- ing up and enjoying every moment of it. I really hope there is more travelling to come because the idea of sharing what I am making to people outside of where I’m from is a truly exhilarating thing.
