Just two episodes into CTV’s new series The Launch, and the show has already made Ottawa’s Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine nationally known. The duo, known for tender ballads and keyboard-fuelled pop songs, quickly wowed judges to compete on an early episode.

In the show’s journey to launch a new talent every week, Woods and Fine had to fine tune and record a song from OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder in 48 hours.

“The biggest challenge was trying to stay in the moment,” said Fine. “We look back on it and realize there was quite a bit we didn’t actually remember.”

Woods and Fine’s winning version of Tedder’s “Ain’t Easy” was immediately released as a single, a big step for a band who’s been working together for three years. Fine even admits that it’s not easy to see your way to success clearly.

“There are moments where it’s easy to start doubting the direction you’re moving in,” he said. Sticking to their guns has paid off, and the duo are mostly deciding how to manage their new attention.

“It definitely feels like an overnight kind of thing, but we’re trying to keep our feet firmly planted on the ground.”
